Renaissance dresses....

I love repeat customers! Especially whenever they have a great idea for a costume! I created three of these adorable Renaissance dresses for Laurie in Texas and they were so much fun to design!
Thank you Laurie! I appreciate your business, and I cant wait to sew for you again!

Argh...

My little pirate is growig up so fast. Today was his first day of school. I was more than a little heartbroken when he wanted to just catch the bus. I should have figured that he would...around here riding the bus is cool...in elementary school that is! So he went off to 2nd grade courtesy of the cheesewagon and I did a few odd jos to stay busy. I saved sewing for tonight after he goes to bed, it just would have been to lonely to stay at home while he was gone all day!
**Oh, and I relisted the Pirate Deluxe Pirate Deluxe on ebay, I have enough fabrics to make a couple more swashbuckling cuties' costumes!**

Life's a beach...

Living at the beach, I often look outside and am awe struck by the beauty of the world. That is exactly what happened to me today. I was sewing merrily (as usual)and glanced outside and saw the most beautiful sailboat, just drifting by! Today I am vowing to be glad for how good it is to live here, and making a mental note to stop fretting about life, and just BE here, in the moment!

Sewing the day away..

I contemplated buying this older sewing machine today. No, not at first, whenever I saw the picture, but later as I sat sewing at my shiny white plastic brother machine with it's wonderful knobs, specialized stitches, and extra bells and whistles. I just started thinking about a time long ago and forgotten now. A time when most moms sat, just like me, sewing for their children. Not by choice, but instead out of necessity. I thought of a time less rushed. Of children who played in their yards with nothing but dirt and carved toys, and a childhood innocence that hadn't been compromised by the ugly that has plagued our children's world.
I had a ton of emotions flood through me thinking about even my own childhood. I remembered staying outside all day, with only the promise of dessert after dinner able to lure me back inside. And I looked at my son, engrossed in his rationed 2 hours of television. If he wanted to brave the extreme heat and go outside alone to play I would have said no. Overprotective maybe, but I'm that mom that sits and sews with plenty of time to think of "what could happen" in this crazy tourist town that we live in. We eventually did go outside to chase birds from their hiding spots and search for lizards... and the look on my kiddos face let me relax a little and just live in the moment. We ran with sticks, we jogged uphill, and we lived carefree... all today, and all in this world I had painted as such a scary place only minutes before we braved the world outside.
So I think I will stick to my modern sewing machine, and just grab on to the moments that float by, and the peacefulness of knowing the world may be crazy, but in our house, the only knowledge my son has of this is whenever I flip past the news at night and stop on the music channel while we speed clean the house before his daddy gets home ;)

Yummy! So I was searching for back to school stuff on ETSY(my new favorite place to shop) and I saw these delicious cookies! This seller has some gorgeous pastries! Her seller name is Ulljas, and she has all of her business and health department regulated info listed too. Darn this diet...although I could always start that diet tomorrow ;)
Today I am finishing an adorable eccletic dress, that I can't wait to post. I also have a Prince Charming and Woodland Fairy costume to finish up today. Hmm... makes me think I better get off the computer and get busy! So, what are your crafty plans for the day?

Tagged...

I have been tagged by Bobbie of the Madie Jane blog! Thank you Bobbie!
Here are the rules:
1. List seven random facts/habits about yourself
2. Choose another SEVEN bloggers to tag and list their names in your blog
3. Leave your seven tagged bloggers comments to notfiy them of their tagging and to direct them to your blog for tag instructions.

Let's see...7 facts/habits about me...
1.I am ALWAYS late..sewing launches on eBay...Check! Dinner with friends.....Check check! I have learned to just slow down when I am late too! The more that you rush when you are late, the later you become! Or at least that is what I tell myself ;)

2.I have 6 (count them 6!) brothers and sisters, who all live in Texas. I am the middle child and am the only child who moved out-of-state ( I live in Pensacola, Florida, 10 hours away from the family) Makes for lonely holidays...but really fun reunions!

3. I love trendy clothes for my son or husband, but could care less about how "stylish" I appear. Gasp! Walmart and Old Navy are cool enough for this Momma! Honestly, I am like most moms that I know and I have a hard time spending money on myself when I can buy my son or dh something-- the only thing that I require is fabric!

4. I walk on the sandy white beaches of Perdido Key at least 5 times a week (yeah you'd think I would be slimmer!?! LOL), searching for beach toys left behind by all of the tourists! We have a big bucket full and don't worry I bleach them before I re-gift them to my son!

5. I was an Air Traffic Controller in the Air Force and I despised it. Even thinking of it now gives me shivers. Sewing and crafting are definately a better fit for my beachy lifestyle! Some days it is just hard to get motivated with the beach outside beckoning me to come play outdoors. Luckily the dh seems to "get it" that summer is definately a down time and my "work" picks up in the fall.

6. I am a bad cook. I burn things. It goes with the old Texas theory that if a little is good than a lot is better! Evidently if it says 350 degrees on the recipe, I guess it means it! And 475-500 will burn it to a crisp!! However, I do make a mean no-bake Jello cheesecake!! LOL

7. My dh and I never had a honeymoon! Sad but true! He worked the rest of the day and has been working almost everyday since then. I have what some would call a work-a-holic hubby who PROMISES for our 10th Annniversary we will have our delayed honeymoon! YAY...only a year and a half to go!

Okay... I am new to the land of blogging so I can really only think of one person to TAG...

My new friend Renee of CANDY STICK LANE!
